NIGERIAN DATA PROTECTION COMMISSION (NDPC)

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) derives its mandate from the National Information Technology Development Act of 2007, which empowers the Agency to develop standards, guidelines, and frameworks for the growth, regulation, and standardization of information technology practices in Nigeria.

As the country’s IT regulatory authority, NITDA is responsible for promoting the development of information technology through the implementation of regulatory policies and instruments. The Agency also serves as the central authority for reviewing and approving government information technology projects and ICT infrastructure initiatives across Nigeria.

These regulatory instruments are intended to support the achievement of national information technology policy goals by providing structured frameworks for effective policy implementation.

To advance the growth of the IT sector, NITDA has issued a range of regulatory instruments and oversees compliance with them. These instruments establish the minimum standards for the planning, development, and implementation of information technology systems in Nigeria and are legally enforceable.

Given the rapidly evolving nature of information technology and continuous technological innovation, NITDA regularly reviews and updates these instruments to ensure they remain relevant and effective.
